Motion and sounds packs

Post by Phil Woollard »

She looks all fairlawn plonked in my tracked barrow ( the easiest way to move these big lumps around with a degenerative spine) I have to fit the motion and sounds packs only but still worth posting the progress as it happens.

All the rubber needs rebonding, I just hope the tyres are not stretched ie going to be too slack, although if you then use epoxy once more it will fill that gap, I've just ordered some nice fresh Locktite 480 as I like to use that above all else

I'm getting my teeth into her now and I am slowly finding the areas that need fetling, it's all very tight around those road wheels. It's worth noting that this model was built by its last owner as a "static" and build very well. Time in damp conditions has taken its toll.

The double road wheel sets have copious amounts of adhesive at the rear face which is causing the tyres to rub the opposing wheel set, on its own this is not a big deal but all the road wheels rubbing this way is just to much resistance.

We may have found a new set of tyres for the half track ( Armortek have none in stock, so look after your rubber ) but if not I can make the sprocket tyres from Tiger 1 parts, just need to get a perfect fit before bonding, I can then turn off the spare in the lathe.

Phil the outer diameter of the new style sprocket tyres needs be 123.5 to 124mm. The tracks will then sit correctly. I turned my glued tyres down in a lathe whilst on the sprockets.
Thanks,
Mark

A taxing days work. It's fighting me all the way, everything interferes with its neighbour but I will methodically go through it , some of the tyres need reducing in diameter just a little to clear the hub of the adjacent wheel set, some of the rubber has a proud casting "rib" on one side which is rubbing the bobbin hubs .
