I had a good look at the zimmerit tools Bob lent me and the number of teeth per inch and depth of the Zimmerit/teeth has been documented elsewhere on the forum. The biggest problem was finding a file thin enough and with the correct angle to avoid rounding off the troughs between the teeth. Also make sure the teeth/depths are slightly different so the zimmerit pattern is not perfect.

I made my own Zim tool out of brass and plastic.

This is how I figured out the number of teeth.
I measured the side hull at this area and enlarged this picture to 1/6 scale.

In the post on my Tiger Per Sonnervik noted the lines on the front plate in the Zimmerit, here you can see them really well.
