I have applied the full weight of my upper body on this section and it held up very well. I want to preserve the slender look of the 115 so some careful construction was needed, this being very close to the full size version.

Hi Phil
Can you please tell me what you are using for the center front to back planks?

I am planning to make a model of a Ransome and Marles Thresher (circa 1926) which is clad in planks.
Thank you
Graham

Hi graham, it's 6mm hardwood marine ply which gives great strength and stability. Try to buy marine ply as the glue for obvious reasons is not affected by moisture. 8)
Don't be tempted to use individual hardwood planks as you will have a hell of a job keeping it all in place.
I'm old enough to have worked on a farm that used the ransoms thresher machine although I was very young at the time

The crappy plastic Stuart used for illustration purposes would make another great Armortek model!

I am now onto the front axle, turntable, spring assemblies and the drawbar, we will also install the air break system, to include the big air tank reservoir and pipework.

Hi Phil
Ref your planking, I have studied the joints and they look like they are burnt in. How did you do that?
They look very realistic.

Graham all I'm going to say is, mark out the planks and the simulated fixings being as accurate as you can, any discrepancy will look pants and you will lose the illusion. Use a stylus following the grain where possible, fill the depression with your chosen medium and clean up. 8)
