Re: Barrel Sleeve
If you mean these on the Walzenblende, gun mantlet:
ie two pairs at two and ten o'oclock but this appears to show one pair at twelve:
Similarly, Jentz and Doyle clearly show the ten and two positions:
But they also show what appear to be different configurations:
so to answer your question, I'd suggest the answer is probably four, two pairs at two and ten o'clock. Given that the gun mantlet was changed in Nov 1942, to strengthen the gunner's eyepiece aperture, I suppose it's possible they changed from one pair at twelve o'clock to two pairs, to increase the circulation of lubricant. But that's speculation. You'd probably be safe with the two and ten configuration.
True Tiger rivet counting. There has to be a life somewhere.......

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Hi Dave and Stephen,
There was 6 screws placed 2, 10 and 6 o’clock in pairs and their purpose was to hold the ”Dichtung” in place.
There was also a drain hole at 6 o’clock.
Drawings here at David excellent tiger1.info site.
http://tiger1.info/EN/Mantlet-sleeve.html
The photo with the screws at 12 o’clock from the Bovington Tiger show the Britts replaced the sleeve upside down
Hope this helped.
Kind regards
Kent

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Kent, thanks. That explains the Jentz and Doyle diagrammes but how do you explain the second photo I posted which clearly has two screws at 12 o'clock. Was it possible to fit the sleeve upside down maybe?

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Stephen,
Yes, the sleeve is by misstake replaced by her new owner, the Britts, upside down.
Please note the drain hole that can be sen in the photo, it is supposed to be placed at 6 o’lock or be useless....
Kind regards

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Ur welcome Dave, happy to help.
Sorry Britts I have to go down in flames here accusing you for assembling the sleeve upside down.
No the photo show the Aberdeen Tiger1 with its liftning lugs on the mantlet so it is the US who failed here, sorry....
Kind regards

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Anyone considering this addition, you will need M1.2 CSK slotted screws.
Mine have just arrived and I have no idea how to countersink a hole that small
Adrian.

Re: Barrel Sleeve
Hi Adrian
These go down to 1.3mm and are ok at 1.2 but they do burr the hole a bit so a quick clean up with the drill before you tap.
