Track and sprocket problem

I am having a hard time finding out what the problem is with the tracks on my 2003 tiger 1 build

Road wheels are 100 % aligned and sprocket has been gently alligned by rolling the track by hand so that it gets the perfect fit.

The pictures shows the tracks will not fit the sprocket teeths.

The tracks are the 2003 version put together a looooong time ago.

The 2003 issue Tiger tracks have a casting fault on them. If you look at the circular part of the track link that sits between the sprocket teeth, it has a right angled corner profile instead of being circular. You need to re profile every link with a hand file or Dremel to make them circular.

You will also find that the spring washers that hold the track pins in have a habit of coming off during running, causing the pin to come out. All the track pins now are cross drilled and split pinned.

Sorry for the bad news. It looks like you have some rework to do. There is only 200 track links and pins

Wow, I didn't guess that my pic of the damaged Tiger track links in the RC-Panzer-Forum did also make it to the Armortek forum!

This information is also interesting for the guy who has these and other damaged track links at his Tiger.

By the way: at Reinholds annual meetings of models in 1/8 scale and bigger (with priority at 1/6 scale and several Armortek models to be seen) I saw some similar track link damages also at King Tigers and Panthers / Jagdpanthers. Is there a known reason for track link damages at these models too?

I had the same prob. I posted in the tiger 1 section (Tiger 1 track should these be round) this may help.
I must say after filing all the track links by hand and testing them they are a lot better.

Hello!

About four years ago I purchased an partly built, barely ran 2003 Tiger 1. The original builder HAS did the mod to the track links. But when I received it and finished building it (paint/details) the tracks LIKED to ride up on the sprockets or miss teeth.

I had a HECK of time with'em until I was advised that, since the tracks had been put together way back in 2003 and the tank had SAT on a pallet unused for over ten years, I should check the TRACK PINS and possibly get NEW PINS.

I saw the original pins were RUSTY!! The track wasn't free flowing and sometimes they'd BIND, setting off the sprocket tooth timing.

I ordered NEW track pins, changed'em out, and have NOT had ANY PROBLEMS since then! This 'old' T1 drives GREAT! (AND the NEW pins use COTTER PINS instead of those lock washers!)

And I also lightly tapered the inside/outside tip of each tooth to help guide the tooth in which didn't hurt also. With the sprockets installed (and tracks off) I ran the sprockets while lightly holding an air sander to the rotating sprocket tips at an angle. Worked GREAT!

Hi Steen,

I remember having to file all my track links, it was a bit of a pain but haho. I would also advise you to smooth the edges on the teeth of the drive cog. it will stop the tracks riding when it goes backwards.
