Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
Its been a few weeks and sadly while taking photos of the build i had not got round to posting progress here
as you will see i had been test fitting the hull to get the feel of how it goes together,i am gray etch priming as i go,as i don't have the room to bulk spray
next up was sorting out the torsion bar and their fittings
for people who have built the earlier versions of this tank the rubber seal groove is now removed and i have included a photo-

Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
a few different angles
while building my Clarke Milling machine got an upgrade with a longer milling table and long lead screw, for those interested a Seig X1 table is a drop in fit to the Clarke one, this was to come in very handy in the following weeks

Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
Its coming along fine, sadly i am not good at posting photos on here,as i have to move photos between phones and PCs
I have the lower chassis finished apart from weld seams,i have all wheels built and painted, all torsion are built and painted,i am assembling the tracks right now ,which are also painted to look like heavy rust, its taking a bit longer than i thought but getting there
i also started on the upper deck and also the turret but only because the wheels/bars and tracks can be a bit boring, and just needed a distraction
the painting has also slowed me down, because of the temperature extremes in Scotland,i have etch primed/red primed/and base Desert Yellow everything
i am working towards a rolling lower chassis, now i have my focus back,if i can get the tracks finished,it should be working in 8 weeks or sooner as i have limited time to work on it
thanks for asking
Donald

A few Updates
I haven't seen anyone post this, but i used a straight edge to get the mudguard studs correctly inline while loctiting them
the second was a lengthy milling of the front plate,in another build (Garys i think) someone mentioned that the edges are a tad too long,i am not sure how much larger than they should be so winged it a bit removing 7mm which was roughly half i am not sure if this is correct but took a chance on it being close

Idler Endfloat Issue
After taking a long time to get the rear idler spindle fitting snug,i ran into a problem,it turns out you have to balance the distance for the brass bush so that you take up the end float of around 1mm,if you dont it will have a knock on effect later on
let see if i can explain....
i started out inserting the bush and the spindle from the outside with a liberal coating of green loctite, bad mistake......
After heating the part up and starting all over again,it should look like this to remove the end float
This is the correct position for the bush to take up the end float the problem is how do i loctite this in place while taking up the end float?

Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
Hi Donald
I also had problems getting the Idler bush in the correct location and eventually decided to put all the wheels on and use a rod along the wheels to line up the idler wheel and ensure it was centrally aligned. There was a slight discrepancy between the idlers and I found I need the bush to protrude slightly on the idler wheel side of the hull to get the idlers aligned.
I have added a photo of mine , I cannot guarantee this is how it should be done but I have also used green loctite so fingers crossed .
Regards
Gary

Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
Its been sometime since I updated progress, mainly as i see much the same build work on the same tank and i didn’t want to bore people with the same old stuff
Work on my tank has been painfully slow due to family issues to attend to and work ramping up in the last few months
Also the winter slowed me down due to heating costs in the workshop Thanks Vince, worked perfect

This was printed to correct the kit part,my milling skills were not up to shaping the kit part, but this 3d part in aluminium is a direct fit

Re: Late Tiger 1 2021 Number 6 Build
Bump stops added and a few things tidied up
I would end up removing the mudguard mounts because they would get in the road of zimmert application
