Conversion T 34

This is an attempt to translate a construction report from German into English using a translater. One may apologize for the mistakes or wrong words. Otherwise it would have been only a photo report.



Summer / fall 2017

For a long time, a very strange project pokes around in my mind. Background / Scenario:

40 years Eastern Front. Material battle. Loot vehicles. There were tons of Russian vehicles and tanks captured. Partially recycled.

Why should not a Russian T 34 reactivate and be restored with German parts? So for example with a tower of a damaged Tiger tank?
At that time, the Russians were considering equipping the T 34/85 with a 88mm.



Version with a Tiger I tower




These spinnings as a basis, I have a tower of a Tiger I (ARMORTEK) sought and found. Likewise, I was able to purchase a T 34 from ARMORTEK in autumn 2017. A very nice finished model from the deep south of Germany.


Concurrently with these considerations, I wondered if the tower of a tiger would fit on the tub of a T 34. As an alternative I have as a second version a recovery tank T 34 with equipment from the mountains Panther. That's what he might look like ...... ..




Since my guess is that the tiger's tower does not fit on the tub, I've already started building a few parts for the T34 Berge.

Made of polystyrene I got a kit from the loading platform of the Bergepanther. The parts were scaled up from 1:16 to 1: 6. No problem in this day and age.

At the front part of the Bergepanzer one could attach a "sliding bar". For this I have made a bracket for the beam.










Für die Holzbalken habe ich ein uraltes Hartholz (noch von meinem Vater) verwand.

For the wooden beams, I have an ancient hardwood (even from my father) related.

Got back my tool parts from my paint specialist.









Started with the parts of the auxiliary crane. Gem. The execution of Bergepanther I have provided an auxiliary crane. Sketches made, round materials cut to length ... .. Here is the head situation with an auxiliary device for round milling of the parts.

Have found in the company LUDWIG a supplier who can supply me the soil spike in 1: 6. In the meantime, I wanted to take the ground spike from the FAMO, which is much easier. Then came the redeeming news that the Panther Erdsporn can still be made in steel. Now it's time to wait.
In between the hitch was build.

I overcame my electrophobia and reprogrammed the remote control of the T 34. Then put the part on a mobile workbench and pulled the tower. The T 34 is a beautiful vehicle, too bad to chang



Nevertheless, I want to do it! However, all conversions are planned and carried out so that a dismantling without much effort is possible.

Yesterday the package came with the parts for the earth spur. The company LUDWIG has scanned and laser-cut the parts from 1:16 to 1: 6.









Parts arranged and provisionally put together and fixed










The wooden parts have been supplied by Fa. Ludwig as teaching. Without this aid, the assembly would have become quite complicated.

In the afternoon I got an appointment with our locksmith to weld the parts.

After about 3 hours, the earth spike was finished in the shell

I also got the rope guide from Fa. LUDWIG and had it welded.

I built the fork for the rope. From a square steel fork was born.







As a rope I decided not to take a wire, but a rope. In the end, I drilled and fused it.





The plastic cone was then soaked with 2K resin and brought into shape. Then pulled with a lot of resin in the fork.





The finished sliding bar I have grown on the front.

Made a few small parts. I built the spindles for the earth spur. This left-hand thread cut and eyes built.



These hooks are on the spur for the spindles.







Also the auxiliary crane could be mounted.

I am currently working on with many small subprojects. So for example the loading wall fasteners of GG cultivated. Very nice small castings made of metal.




Then it went to the rope guide from the winch to the rear of the vehicle. It had to be made there a side jump of about 30mm. Here's a pulley.




Deflection seen from the front. The small thread is intended as a pilot line, for threading the pull rope. The brown component is a support to the ground.






Weiter ging es mit Farbarbeiten. Hier wurde der Erdsporn bearbeitet.



After I pulled the chains, the Aluminum links was treated with aluminum stain. With moderate success.

Brilliant work Rolf yet another unique vehicle! That winch fits in just fine to and the spade is perfect.
