We are very happy to announce that after a few few months development and testing we are ready to start the roll out of our new 2024 Recoil System.

The video below shows the new system in action. As you will see, the system features:
- Fast recoil and slower recovery for the gun.
- It is much simpler to install and more reliable to operate than the CAM system that was featured first on the Elefant tank
- It allows the gun to operate more smoothly then the servo based system and also allows for a longer recover
- It gives us the option to add gun barrel smoke at a later stage.

The new recoil system will be rolled out for the Leopard 2A4 first and then for the Jagdpanther. Other tanks will follow after that.
There are a few more design improvements we need to make and we then need to order in the boxes - so shipping will not be for another 3-4 weeks.

Good news !

Now do I have to un-lock the Leo 2 turret armours & gun mantlet block again to install the new recoil system? (as I did so to install the gun elevation system.)

Cheers,

Hoping i see it right, looks like a fabricated bracket onto the face Chang.
would not want to start breaking open the turret assembly again...... patience young Jedi 8)

looks to be a pretty slick unit though, look forward to putting this in place.

Martin.

Looks great! I like that the end of the barrel where the breach would be is unobstructed. I can easily place a tube through the barrel for the light and smoke. Will this be available for the Pershing tank? Will it easily retrofit if I already have it assembled with the old recoil option (remove old recoil and replace with new recoil option)?

As I'm not yet complete with my King Tiger I'd like to consider retrofitting this to it. Seems much more space and mechanix
efficient. I made my KT's roof removable so I can't say it wouldn't be work but it seems worth the effort if it's compatible
mounting and electronics-wise.

Will this new recoil system work with the older silver boxes? Also, will it work with the 2017 Late Variant Tiger 1 tank?

Leopard 2A4 builder David Merritt recent discussing the maybe needed counter-weight of the gun (barrel + mantlet) ,

Just thought if this new recoil system could be also working as a counter-weight ? Or does it need an extra one?

Cheers,

We have designed the recoil system to work with the same signal from the Audio Module as our previous generation electronics - so yes, ELECTRONICALLY it will be backwards compatible.
We will need to look on a model by model basis what needs to be done to make it mechanically compatible.
The Leo and JP were designed from the start to be mechanically compatible.
The 2023 Tiger 1, Panther G, Jagdtiger, King Tiger and Elefant will be looked at at the end of this year and we will then look on a case by case basis from there as there is demand.

The actuator driven turret elevation is easily powerful enough to lift the barrel of the Leo without any need for a counterbalance. But, to answer your question, the new recoil system does provide some counter balancing load.

In the post that you linked to, David was discussing the challenges of gyro stabilisation - in that case the pivot point should be well balanced to minimise the strain. However, the other challenge that will rear its head in gyro stabilisation is inertia.

Sneak preview of the wiring for the 2024 Recoil System.
Shipping is scheduled to start this week for the Leo but in very low quantities.
