Etch primers

Post by Richie Wignall »

Hi Guys

Can anyone recommend a good primer? I have been using U-Pol Acid 8 etch primer aerosol, but the place I have bought it from in the past has gone under. I think I paid about £8 for it last year. Now phoning around local companies but they are few and far between, one company wants £18 for an aerosol. Is there any good primers that I can use on the KT and also spray with a compressor, and will not flake off.
Hope this all makes sense.

Ditto getting it from Halfords, though they only seem to keep one can on the shelf at a time. It was £10.99 a can last time I bought some.

I use their online ordering system to find out which local stores have it in stock, then go and wipe them out

I've got quite a stock now - I just hope it doesn't have a use by date

Hi Richie,

Here is another tip! Sand blast (glass pearl) all the alluminium parts before using the etch primer. The surface of the alluminium plates gets a little rough (matt) so that the primer even more sticks to the metal. I have good results with this method.

Hope this helps,

Matthijs

Richie,

Try and find a good auto paint shop near you. They will do an aluminium etch primer for a spray gun but you may find it a little expensive, and you will have anough to prime a dozen or more KT's!!
