I do not know but the surface seen in Stephens photos are exactly the surface I am aiming at when I try to get the rolled steel look.
Look closely and one sees it is far from perfectly smooth or do I need new glasses...?
The cast surface seen at cupolas, MG ball mount and grate are (was) far rougher.
All this can be read about in various "how to do magazine" for the 1:35 builders but I think I was the first one to add it on a metal 1:6th tank with my Hetzer.
So blame me

Howdy,
I am no expert, but I work on cargo ships, both new and old, and we also carry modern armored vehicles occasionally. It seems to me that while exposed rolled steel is definately "textured" by the elements, the new rolled steel and the AFVs we carry do have a texture which may not be measurable but is discernable to the eye in the reflectivity of the surface. (not sure the term reflectivity is correct).
Though not yet experienced with the 1/6 Tank yet, this feel to the surface was always the toughest effect to recreate in the 1/35 scale models. (I stippled the surface with a base of thick paint).
On the modern AFVs you could feel this waviness with your hand too.
Thanks for the time, just a thought.
