Brand new rear plate- many thanks Armortek
Rest of the hull now etch primed and zinc primed. I’m aiming to prime every part prior to assembly.
We shall see!!

That's good news.Brand new rear plate- many thanks Armortek
Don't be surprised if some parts will not fit together after priming. Don't ask how I know. Been there and done that.I’m aiming to prime every part prior to assembly.
You might then need to selectively remove some of the primer.

Re: KT 2019 #29
Hi Michael . Nice to see you have the rear plate sorted . It's best to get the complete lower hull together , for the last time when you are happy with it ! You will never need to pull it apart again . Make sure all bolt holes are recess deep enough fill with car filler , what I did was use masking tape and tape a square around the hole close as possible this way when you spread the filler into the hole it will fill up to tape height this over fills the hole remove the tape early after applying the filler the idea of this is much less sanding and no need to go back and top up again . After this is done , do all the fake welds then from panniers down give another final prime coat then you have a finished hull ready to fit out just like the real tank in the factory ..
On page 5 and 6 of my King tiger blog shows what I mean . Also on page 15 you can see I didn't prime the upper hull until all hardware and small weld detail was complete Dale

Re: KT 2019 #29
Two questions if any of you have a moment please.
Firstly, do I prime all the wheel parts prior to assembly or do I prime after fixing them all together?

Re: KT 2019 #29
Hello Michael,
I tend to use etch primer on all wheel parts (except bearings and tyres) prior to assembly, then put the bearings and tyres on and then mask off before applying red-oxide primer and the top dunkelgelb coat. Weathering is done when the wheels have been assembled. You mention using acrylic paint which I find unusual. The most accurate colours in acrylics are the AMMO MIG range but these are in the 17ml bottles and a lot would be required to finish a King Tiger although I am using the Humbrol Enamel tinlets with an airbrush on my Panther. You could try and get a company to match a colour in acrylic spray can but I don't know anybody who has done that. The best enamel Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 spray can in my opinion is the Fosco Army Paint Industrial Colour. There were many versions of Dunkelgelb (at least 5 have been identified by Thomas Chory) used throughout the war many of them attributed to RAL 7028 which is counter-intuitive but covered in his book "Wehmacht Heer - Camouflage Colors 1939-1945". If you want more help on the other colours or some accurate enamel paint mixes for the colours just ask. Above all remember it is your model so if you want to paint it bright pink go ahead !

Re: KT 2019 #29
Definitely loctite them.
We've had instances with the older style aluminium wheels shedding the bolts. They fall into the tracks and ended up jamming them.
We only realized once we'd found a few long M2.5 screws in the grass and wondered where they had come from.
Adrian.

Re: KT 2019 #29
They're subjected to all the bumps and vibration of the running gear so I would use blue.

Hi Adrian, why does vibration decide the color of loctite. I was under the impression that color dictates permanence.Adrian Harris wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 10:07 pmThey're subjected to all the bumps and vibration of the running gear so I would use blue.

Re: KT 2019 #29
The colour/part number dictates how much grip they have. I work on the principal that bolts in the hull etc aren't going to experience as much vibration as those in the running gear, so prefer to use red on the hull and blue or green for the running gear.
