Help please with FrSky Taranis

Post by russell.valentine »

I am completely new to RC and I have just built my first Armortek model, the Panther G.
I have a new Taranis X9D Plus 2019 transmitter that I have bound to a FrSky X8R receiver.

Can anyone offer assistance with how to configure the RC equipment to operate my tank using the right hand Stick to drive the model?
I also have all the Armortek additions for this model, apart from the light.

Please bear in mind that I know absolutely nothing about RC ! You will need to be very patient!

Thank you.

:D I have working Tracks!!!!

Thank you.

I'm hoping the other motors etc will be easier, and I now understand a little more!

Jerry did a quick run down here:

viewtopic.php?p=88645#p88645

You need to make a mix which adds +100% to +100% of the stick on one channels and +100% to -100% on the other channel for the tracks.

Then you may need to change the wires around on the motors so that they go forwards, backwards, left and right as per the stick movement.

This is what I did for my Easy eight.
Brake steering forwards and backwards, with a curve on the output of the throttle to smoothen out starts and stops.
Right stick throttle and steering.
Left stick elevation and turret turn

Erik,

Looking at your opentgx config I see you are using logical switches. I'm pretty sure this is to reverse the turn direction when traveling backwards so it turns correctly. I however even copying your config can't simulate the turn correction. The logical switches turn on in simulator but the mixes seem to be the same as before. Can you explain how and why you are doing the above. I normally just do the standard track mix and it works (same as Stephen whites explanation).

Thanks

Depends on what he was trying to achieve and what you are trying to achieve so " when travelling backwards it turns correctly"

On a FV432 with a normal type gear box, going forward you told the driver to pull on the left tiller to turn left, braked the left hand track. When reversing and looking rearwards, braking the left hand track would have caused the vehicle to turn to the right rearwards. Same as with a car steering wheel. Think radio control car driving it in reverse whilst stood in front of it.

Chieftain & Challenger had this wacky epicyclic gearbox.Going forward, the driver pulled on the left tiller to turn left. Select reverse gear and look over the back of the tank,You want to go left as you then see it, tell the driver to pull on the left stick.
No vehicle mechanic I served with could explain how it worked, and the standing joke was the inventor of it went mad because he could not understand how it worked. However it worked and made things simpler for the vehicle commander.

Paul,

The why:
Not being used to stick transmitters, I programmed it so the nose of the tank will always point in the direction I move the stick. from standing still this works fine but,I actually did not do much driving with it, so I may change it.
The only thing I really wanted to achieve is simulating the break steering that is typical for the Sherman, on an one-stick drive configuration.
The how:
Is as showed in the pictures. Troubleshooting from a distance is difficult but I will give it a go, when you are willing to share pictures from the configuration you programmed. Too bad I cannot send you the otx-file here.

regards,
Erik.

Really I’m just curious and playing with Opentx configs.
After playing I have used logical switches to give me some speed option. As stock the Jagdtiger is a race tank, I wanted more scale speed so I set a switch for this and set weight to 85 this works fine. unfortunately now when turning the outer track will speed past 100 making it unrealistic. Any solutions? Do I have to set the 85 weight on the input side not the mixer? (Just thought about that while typing) I will test.
