After the usual bench testing, a first quick test drive yesterday ....

.... Electronics and servos as well as rear deck and details not yet fixed, as I have to overcome a major problem:

. The Tank is toooooo smal The same batteries that fit into Elefant and Kingtiger are too big for the Jagttiger.... Solution: ordered a 48 Ah 24 V LiFePo battery. Will arrive (hopefully) beginnig of next year... Thus time to start with the internal Stug III

Yes, the fact that the gun can both traverse and elevate, the recoil mechanism takes up just about the entire casemate, leaving little room for anything else. Amazing really!

Problem is, they are brand new...

Hello Peter,

glad to read that at the end you also have decided to use LiFes! In my opinion this is the only one power source that fits a modern vehicle; small, lightweight, powerful. Due to the fact that a LiFe battery can be used at 100 % DoD without a significant lack of duty and a lead acid battery only at 50 % DoD, you might have used also some less than 48 Ah. So you will get twice the time of travel!

The 1/6 scale JT has an enormous length of recoil up to 150 mm at the overheat stop (due to the lack of a muzzle brake), if you will use the prototypical length of recoil. When the gun is at its upper fence the barrel will sink deep in the casemate and so need a lot of space in the hull when traversing in this position. Therefore in my so called 'trendsetter' (the Bigtanks JT) I used some lower LiFes with only 36 Ah after having tried the same mighty lead acids you tried. The result is the necessary clearance for the recoil in the hull, a much longer time of travel and last not least 18 kg less weight!

Hi Brian,

I'm not a friend of LiPos for tank models, because these types of batteries may burn, if they are not treated well. LiFes are much more safe in daily use.

Just thought of an idea for this "Too small" Jagd Tiger:
(1) Replace two speakers into the casemate, then
(2) Move two large batteries backward to the end of the hull, or
(3) Move one backward and the other one forward as much away from the casemate as possible.
(4) There should be enough space for other option packs.

It maybe worth trying ....

Question for you, did the Jagdtiger require wider tracks then the King Tiger or were they the same as the King Tiger tank?
