Paul`s Panzer iv build (001)

Post by Paul Humphreys »

Dear all,

I am about to start on my build journey of a panzer iv and would like to thank everyone that has posted builds/information so far. They are proving a mine of information which I am trying to gather together. Must say that accurate plans of panzer iv`s seem to be very rare! Not found anything that I am happy to scale off to date. Looking to build an H or early J version with Shurtzen (think I spelt it correctly!). This is my first venture into 1/6th scale and very much looking forward to it, as it has been a long ime saving up for! :D

Regrads,

Paul

Paul, I hope you get great pleasure building your Pz IV. The Armortek community is unfailingly knowledgeable and helpful, backing up Gill and Mark. One word of advice is to take the instructions as gospel. From time to time someone tries to second guess or question the accepted way and comes unstuck, sooner or later.

The best reference for the Pz IV is undoubtedly the Panzer Tracts series. Unfortunately that for the Pz IV is out of print but you may find it around the military bookshops:

http://www.amazon.com/PANZER-TRACTS-NO- ... =leosm1-20

It good particularly for the Doyle scale drawings.

Another useful source is the Missing Lynx modelling forum:

All the best.

Stephen

Paul, if it's from the same series as this one below, it's not bad. The Pz III edition has a good summary of detailed design changes, a lot of detailed (but small) photos, a lot of sketches of detailed components and a 1/35th three view. Not something you could use as working drawings, like the Panzer Tracts offers. The Achtung Panzer series is usually available from UK based outlets.

I understand that Panzer Tracts are intending to publish one on the Pz IV Ausf J in late summer. Might be worth contacting them by email.

Regards

Stephen

I have a few of the achtung panzer books. The panzer IV book is not great. Covers a few versions so only about 3 pages on each. Drawings are not detailed and more like rough sketches. Their Tiger and Panther books are much better.

I have made a start and this is my first go at uploading some pictures so I will hopefully figure it out!

I have added some letters to bogie arm and lowered the last return roller.

Sorry about the nautical markings but that I understand!

Armortek instructions are not exactly highly detailed but as they say "measure twice and cut once" really does apply!

Nuts on drive wheel housing changed to castellated by cutting 6 slits in the nuts with a dremel. Tedious and not easy!
