Armortek Owners club

I can see this going the wrong way. I think that floating the original idea of an Armortek Owners club was not to be elitist or to go back to the them and us bad old days, but to offer owners an avenue to get together and hold events. I always thought that the idea would be challenged as there is already a UK tank club with insurance and forums. If the new club is to offer anything useful then it must have objectives that are complementary and not competitive, although I don't believe that there is any harm in some overlap. Thus I feel that the challenge is to come up with the complementary objectives. My offering is as follows

To encourage local/area meetings for both social and or model running meetings.

I am slighlty confused

. I believe that the owners club already exists in all but name. This forum is exclusively for Armortek owners, except for Stuart and Robert of the UKTC, you can buy Armortek clothing with more to come, you get a regular newsletter if you so wish and get all the news as it happens and all this for FREE (Apart from the merchandise and your initial purchase) The meeting and running of tanks is also covered by the UKTC with insurance and regular meetings all over the country. If there is a benefit from creating an Armortek Owners Club can someone please explain.

I too must confess that I also need enlightening, as Allan and Antony have said many of the main things that a club would look to achieve are already provided and available here.
My concern is that the creation of a club and perhaps other Armortek based forums may result in the dilution of this existing forum and the fantastic job that it does in bring us all together. As Allan has said the new club if there is to be one should be complementary and not competitive.

If a club were to be created I would like one of its goals to be creating high detail aftermarket parts for its members of the quality that Vince used to have created for us on cnc machines.

Their will inevitably be those who do and those who do not wish to join the club especially if it is fee based, what do our international colleagues have to gain from joining a new club in the UK, and even if they have their own branch of this new club are there enough of them in a close enough proximity to each other to justify it when they can simply arrange to meet up with each other here on this forum. I recently moved to Canada from the UK and the nearest Armortek owner to me is about 500 miles away.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the creation of a club, I would just like to know how this benefits the collective over and above what we have for free now.

I think Robert hit the nail on the head, why re-invent the wheel! The UKTC offers a very good Third Party insurance cover with the same insurance company offering personal cover and continental cover as well. We attend various shows and events around the country where all members are welcome with whatever model in whatever scale. We have a lively internet Forum (sometimes too lively!) where everybody can join in including non-members, this way we have members from all around the world including some of the big names in the RC Armour world.

If you haven't joined the UKTC I would encourage you to do so. Come along to one of our events/shows/meets and see what we're all about, we're a friendly bunch! We have members across the UK (with more in some areas than others but we are working on it!) so there's normally something going on not too far away from you. Join the Forum and join in on the Forum.

The UKTC with it's it's wide variety of model owning members is the best way of building this hobby of ours. As I've stated in the past, we don't care what you're model's made of, GRP, metal or lollipop sticks! As long as it looks like a tank, sounds like a tank and moves like a tank then it probably is a tank!!! The best way of putting the silly 'them and us' thing behind us is to consolidate not fragment so in the words of the song, come and join us

Antony Rowley, Dave Pengelly, Mick Regan, Nigel Allen amongst others are regulars at our meets, ask them for their opinion

Hi all,

I don't think that this debate has anything to do with a 'them and us thing' nor do I think that anyone has suggested that it does.

This is simply about whether or not Armortek owners wish to have an Armortek specific club.

I believe the answer is yes we do and I believe that a club dealing with Armortek only issues (for the lack of a better word) is a good thing. But I think that we already have that as has been said 'in all but name'
If it can be shown that there is reason to have another separate club as well then I'm sure I will be on board with that too.

The UKTC is a great club that has a lot to offer builders of all tanks regardless of there origins and is available to all, I am not currently a member but I do often visit the forum. I will no doubt join at some point.
But it is good to be able to log on to this forum and interact with others that are building the same tanks as I am. There will always be build issues and topics that are specific to Armortek tanks and this is the best place to air them.

Just my two-cents worth.
