Kit supplied Armorpax hatches assembled and painted,nothing fancy.I did make the latches functional though.

just a heads up the inside of the all hatches were painted the same as the outside if open in the field they would have stuck out like a sore thumb painted white

Hi all.

Not much progress since my last post,other home projects in the way.

I did however run it a few times in the snow we had a while back.The first trip resulted in a broken track link.The second trip derailed a track.The last trip iced up the idler wheels resulting in too tight of tension.Don't think I'll run in the snow any more!

Also during this time I had wooden handled tools ordered from Mike Stannard and a fan control from Adrian Harris.Both of which I would highly recommend!The fan control is installed and works great!Still working on the tools and their placement.I know the snow shovel likely doesn't belong on a late tiger,but I like the look,and I'm not building any particular tank.

It's been mentioned before but just to refresh. If running on snow leave tank outside for a while to avoid clogging the tracks with snow. Snow melts on the warm metal then refreezes. If tank temp is lowered it should not be as big a problem.

Yes I had read about letting the tank get cold , just got impatient . On the last run it was actually quite warm out and the snow was melting away , but it still packed up on the idler wheels .

As someone who has a blown fuse in the middle of a playing field in the snow I am tempted to make a modification that has appeared in this forum a while ago. It was to make the idler wheel spring loaded so that it would accomodate stones, mud and snow!
If I can find the post I will let you know, or maybe the person who wrote it will read this and recognise what is being referred to and put it up themselves.

I run in the snow all the time and with the right precautions, it works great!
Letting the tank cool for half an hour as has been said is #1. If the snow is wet enough to make snowballs, it will pack and build up in the idler (on a tiger). In such conditions, track tension should be very loose. In fact, consider adding a link during winter! If the tracks have a tendency to derail, there is another issue. Check sprocket (and roadwheel) alignment and that the teeth have been chamfered per the instructions plus front and back. It can probably be overdone, but if the track climbs, chances are you have done too little. I don't have a sprung "track saver", but have yet to break a track link.

Hi all,

I do think you need something to "give" when driving these heavy 1/6 models and I´ll be doing something simular to what I did on my 1/8th Tiger II.

It´s quite simple and one may need to add a locking nut to make sure the bolt stay in desired position but that´s it - nothing fancy and it works fine. Perhaps not as much "give" as Richie´s construction but at least it´s not rigid.

Hi all.
Found some time to do a little work on the tank.Had to do quite a bit of filing and sanding on the lower edge of the turret front plate so the gun pivot would move freely.There seems to be more gap at the top than the bottom.Did the real tank have a seal or gasket here?
I also re-purposed a bracket from a screen door to help stiffen the gun elevation assembly,the gun is quite heavy and I saw a lot of movement at the motor and shaft. These additions eliminated all of that.I also plan to add a spring to help re-leave some of the weight. That's all for now,thanks for looking .
