Re: Armorpax Quad 50 update 23/3/13
I genuinely thought 25kg of the stuff would be enough, I reckon there is at least half that again with what I still have to cast.Paul Morris wrote:Morning Dave.

Juts for interest there is over 14kg of silicone moulds to produce just 1 batch of these and a similar weight of white metal moulds (although the white metal moulds will last much longer than the resin moulds).
Best regards
Dave

Fantastic model Dave. Well worth the wait!
Looking at your pictures, I'm already pondering where to put the servos in mine..

Re: Armorpax Quad 50 update 23/3/13
Hi Maarten,
In the early days when I thought of RC'ing it my thoughts were tending towards drilling though the inner drum so I could have a cranked link from the outer drums. I was going to use 2 linked servos in the foot well connected to these cranked arms to give the elevation. I would then hide as much as I could with a torso figure.
The top half is seperate from the lower drums and sits into the top ring, so rotation should be straight forward. Might be worth putting a thin nylon ring between the two to act as a bearing surface.
But I'm going to leave you and the others to figure it.......
I am clearly insane as I am already looking at new ammo trays, for traditional ammo boxes as often seen in Nam, and possibly even a limited edition display base in the form of the M20 trailer up on its jacks and without the wheels to show mine off.
One things certain. After this I am not building anything this large or complex again as a commercial item.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Armorpax Quad 50 update 23/3/13
Dave,
That is one of the most amazing mass produced kits I've ever seen. Brilliant execution, fabulous detail. I don't know how much they go for, but its probably not enough to cover the labor and hours that went into this. Superb model. I can understand not wanting to this again anytime soon. Thanks for your efforts to support the hobby!
Best regards,
Bob

Re: Armorpax Quad 50 update 23/3/13
Hi All,
At a bit of a loose end waiting for the silicone to remake the front sheild mould. Instructions done and everything else packed.
I've not really been in the mood for model making the last few weeks but made myself have a go at something simple. I have a number of Vietnam era Quad pics with all manner of different ammo cans. One of the more unusual uses cut down gas or water cans.
I've modified a couple of ammo can carriers from the 50 cal soft mount and made this odd arrangement.
Best regards
Dave

Hi All,
And to complete the ammo box options I've started on a more modern style .50 cal ammo box.

Dave
