Armorpax Quad 50 update 23/3/13

Post by Dave Dibb (Armorpax) »

Hi All,

The end is finally in sight. My casters are now working on the final set of moulds for the Quad and I have taken delivery of 15 sets of parts off the moulds already done. I have started casting the resin components and expect to be building the first full kit, to allow us to produce instructions, in around 4 weeks time.

We will then be able to finally advise a price for the kit.

All 15 sets are potentially pre-sold and Armorpax will not be offering these to trade customers for resale. The take up from this list of potential pre sales will dictate whether we go on to a second run.

The Quad will only be offered as a limited batch prodiuction and will not go on general sale.

Best regards

Dave

Hi All,

I have taken delivery today of another 4 boxes of metal quad parts. My metal casters have also just set the last sets of moulds aside to cure and I expect to have the final batch of metal parts by next weekend.

I have few more days work to finish the gang moulds for multiple resin items such as the gun breaches and then I should have enough info to finalise the price.

Best regards

Dave

Hi All,

As I ran out of resin yesterday I decided to start putting one together while I wait for the new stocks in the week.

I was going to wait until I had all the parts but you know what its like when you have a new toy sitting there......................

There are some very slight variations in the parts due to the nature of the different casting processes and the shrinkage due to the size and bulk of some of the resin parts. This aside apart from easing a couple of holes, and a gentle reform of the back bar which has straightened slightly in the moulds, its gone together to this point in just over 4 hours. Granted I know where it all goes apart from a couple of peices (I did have to recheck my original build pics to rememember). The pieces from my metal casters required minimal cleaning and there are just the holes to drill in a number of the metal parts that have to be filled to allow them to be cast.

I have photographed the assembly in detail ready to create the instructions.

There are three pics at the end of the post that show many of the parts. There are still the big resin drums, shield and Ammo cans to do and more metal/hardware parts not shown but it gives you a good idea of what you get.

Best regards

Dave

As normal dave an outstanding piece of work ! The quads will be amazing, but for the tankies on the Forum, i recommend that they check out the Armorpax forum/blog for the step by step build of your fantastic Marder in the background, the quailty of your work in plastic and the detail is second to none on these ! well done again.

Hi All,

I've assembled as much as I can until more resin arrives later this week and the reciever covers, pins and sight guard for the 50's............yes I forgot them. So busy going through the new masters I forgot the parts I needed from the original 50 kit.

At this rate I am hoping to be able to show the fully assembled quad sometime next week and ship out the first kits the week after.

Best regards

Dave

Hi All,

Another long day casting and I'm out of resin again. Will order more Monday and can then cast the base drums and the rest of the canvas seats. The front shield mould has sagged. as its so long since I made it, and some of the castings are almost paper thin. I don't think I am going to be able to salvage it and I have had to cut the back out of the mould and then grind out the casting for the instruction build kit. I will remake the mould later in the week.

Best regards

Dave
