After looking at the plans in the Hayward book, I decided to revise the rear deck.
I have made the engine compartment wider and moved the tail lights and louvers further back, so far.
I attempted to make the ventilation grate from 26 gauge rod, that I had. It's a mess, to be honest! So I'm going to remove that and start again on that part of the build.

I'm enjoying the build even more, now that I am taking my time!
Having seen the new high efficiency drive photos, I'm looking forward to the day I part with my pennies to install them in Belvedere.. On that point, and this has probably been posted before, what batteries are best to run the tank?

Once again, thanks for the help and support from everyone.

Regards
John

Hello John, following your build with great interest, I like your improvements and add-ons. There are some serious builds on the Forum. I know from my own experience that there is a real urge to press on. I made many mistakes in my race to complete the Comet, one step forward, two back. However, I learned by the mistakes and now enjoy a more leisurely pace, these tanks are very additive though.
Keep posting.....best wishes....Mick.

Hi
Redone the ventilation grill ...... for the third time!
It has been a good learning curve, on soldering brass.
Needs cleaning up to remove the flux and excess solder.

Test fit .......

Looks like you've got the soldering licked :D

I've only got a couple of pictures of the grate from Bovington so I'll shrink them and post them next. Let me know if you want the full sized pictures.

Thanks Mick. Adrian, the photos are great. The rods on my cover are not quite right, diameter wise. All I could get locally is 2mm tube (B&Q)! The spacing leaves too wide a gap between each rod.
One thing I noticed from your photos, is that the engine cover needs to be moved back towards the ventilation grill. Should not be difficult to do.
Thanks for the help.

Best regards
John

Hi
Does anyone know how the lid is hinged, on the rear pannier of the Firefly?

John, I've had a look through my pictures of the Bovvy Firefly and none of them show the bin lid :?

There's nothing helpful in the Haynes Sherman book, Hayward's Firefly book or the Modellers Guide to the Sherman.

Thanks for looking Adrian. I've had a look through my photos, again! I found this one, it's not a great help, but it does answer how the first aid box mounted!
