T34/85 Mantlet and Turret Front

Post by phil fitzpatrick »

I'm scratching my head until the saw dust leakes out with this one, hope
someone can help.
I cant see how the pivot pins can be screwed there is no clearance to
work with.
The manual says fit the pins after the rest is assembled but this cant be done
from the dry fit I have been trying, not without machineing

I will send the pics to Mark if no one has tried this yet.

Phil,

Are you sure you have the right item as a pivot pin??? and that it shouldn't just be a 'pin', ie no bolt head?? I can't say as I don't have any and from the other postings I believe these items were omitted from the bag - don't know if it was everyone. Speaking to Mark he is rectifying this and has the relevant items sorted ready to be sent out.

Hi Brown

We have made special pivot bolts for the mantlet. These will be sent out to you. Apologies for the omission.

Mark

Hi John
Yes the missing pivot pins came today.
Discovered by Lee when he was studying his manual.
There is no mention of the part number
The bag is marked FA0485 for the T34/85 pins.
It looks to me as though a bit more side clearance in the machined out bit
is needed to screw them in,because the manual shows they go in last somehow.
You need to check with Gill to see if the pin are being sent out automatic or
she is waiting for calls.
I have sent the pic's to Gill to show to Mark.
Cheers
Phil

I found the easiest fix I could so I could continue and it was easy to do
Assembled loose cos I will have to dissasemble to fix to the turret base
and reassemble.
Image
I plopped the pivot blocks in,poked the amended pin up the hole with a screw driver a bit of a
jiggle about and screwed in easy.
No side ways movement
Image
Choped the heads off the Pins and made a slot for a screw driver.
Image
Drilled the side of the Turret front 9.5mm and tapped it so I can get a couple of grub screws
on Monday to plug the holes and leave for access.
They will be covered by the casting finish and can be found if required

Happy Now :D :D :D :D

I bought a '76 and was just wondering if anyone has experienced similar problem with it. I also have a simple question for I guess it's Mark; when these types of problems arise, are the replacement part automatically sent to the purchasers or do we have to request them?

Hello Bill

Some of the issues raised here are not problems at all. They are just individuals having individual issues, thats why we always ask you to contact us directly, and not use the forum as a first point of contact. There is no issue at all with the 76 pivot pins. The 85 is simply addressed, just contact us directly and we will respond.

Thanks
Mark
