smoke unit

Post by David Gray »

I want to use the spare sixth channel on my radio to turn the smoke unit
element on and off
to do this i was thinking of useing a servo with a micro switch attached
to it.
the question is , can i just conect the element to the switch or dose the

element have to be connected to a 24v relay and the switch turn the relay
on and off
thanks Dave Gray

Richie mentioned an RC switch for turning the lights on and off which, if memory serves, had a relay already built in.

Found it - it's in this thread:

Dave,

You can get the switch’s cheaper than that, they are about £11 for solderless ones on UK eBay.

If you search through his other items you will find different types

Hi Guys

I have used the switch Richie shows in the Panther for a few years now. However, only for the convoy lights. It has worked very well. I know that doesn't answer yor original question Dave but thought I'd voice the positive experience with that particular switch. You can also buy it direct from www.robotmarketplace.com

I think that's it. They have all kinds of neat stuff and great service.

Best regards
Tim

You would need to concider the amps that the element consumes, if say it requires 10 amps then you might concider using a 15 amp micro switch to be on the safe side, we use the servo/micro switch for most applications it keeps it simple and is relitivly cheap easy to adjust and you can add on more than one switch if you require ( using a snail or cam to engage the switch arms as it rotates) 15amp micro switches are around £6 per 10 on Evilbay , a standard servo will operate the switch with ease.
Or you could just buy the nice switcher that Wiggy has found, hope this helps

I'm pretty sure the standard Armortek element is 48 Watts, so only 2 Amps at 24 Volts.

Blimey, that would make them about 100W - quite some difference.
