Hello!
Since the compass holder is usually installed on the Panther G models, I wanted to have a corresponding compass for my used Panther (release 1, 2006), because I like detailing. In 1:35 model building the compass is avaiable in the aftermarket. So I looked at some pictures and started constructing. One could further refine the construction (lettering, scales, etc.), but even at 1:6 scale things will no longer be visible in print.
I will then print the construction in resin.
From my construction I can also make the short version for Luchs and Tiger I.
I'm still not sure about the orientation of the mount. There are differences here on model building sites, unfortunately I have not yet found original photos of panthers with mounted Orterkompass. Maybe someone here in the forum can help me.
More pictures of the assembly will follow.
Regards Michael

Re: Orterkompass OK38 for Panther G
Michal wasn't that compass only used on Panthers that were equipped with the Infrared night sightsights?
I'd read that these were used for calibration/coordination of units with these sighting devices. My understanding is that
very few late war G model Panthers were equipped with the infrared devices so very few Panthers actually used this type
of compass? Or was it widely issued so any Panther could be equipped as needed?
Information on this device is scarce.

Re: Orterkompass OK38 for Panther G
Hi Jerry,
thank you for your informations.
I also know this Panther side. As is also written here, unfortunately not much is known about the Orterkompass on the Panther. However, since the compass was developed in 1938, it can be assumed that it was also used. Probably also on ships and in airplanes. My panther will also be equipped with IR, so the OK38 would also fit here, although a bit of imagination is part of the model building hobby.
Maybe you can find more information about the OK38 here in the forum.

hello.
you can try "orterkompass" in axis miltaria, they have one for sale, and of course pictures of it and its mount (but not the clamping device)
and the pictures are re-used in a post on track-link with generic info

Hi Didier!
Merci for the informations.
I didn't know about this site. Maybe one day there will be an original picture of a Panther with mounted OK38.
Regards Michael

There’s also one for sale at International Military Antiques for comparison but it’s in some sort of wooden display box.

The parts are printed and manufactured. Now comes the painting and assembly.
