Lead acid AGM charging help needed.

Post by Matt Fidler »

Hi,
I am taking my tank to its first display tomorrow and want to know if I can charge the battery tonight or is it best to get up early and do it in the morning? Not sure how they hold their charge overnight.

As long as the tank is switched off they should hold their charge for weeks.

I normally charge the night before.

Adrian.

I think a more interesting question may be which charging system is used. An automatic AGM charger will stop charging when the battery is fully charged; no problem for overnight charging. A simple constant current charger has to be removed when the battery is fully charged to avoid overcharging and damaging the battery.

A fully charged AGM battery may be stored for more than 6 months without recharging. In the first month it can be used without a significant lack of charge. Each AGM battery should only be discharged to 50 % of its capacity (50 % DoD) to avoid untimely wear.
kind regards
Gerhard

Well, this charger is an automatic type, which stops charging when the battery is fully charged. There is no reason for NOT charging overnight.
