Some help for a newbie please

Hello fellow Armortek owners. I am a complete novice to this scale and type of project. I have been building static models and Dioramas for years and although I am confident in the construction part, it is the controls I struggle with sometimes.
I have just completed the static build and paint job on my Late Variant Tiger 1 and absolutely love it.... Just waiting for all the option packs to arrive to bring this amazing tank to life...Can anyone advise on the following please:

The most simple Radio unit and receiver to set up. (Armortek suggest FrSky Taranis X9D Plus 2019 Transmitter)
The best compatible receiver.(Armortek suggest FrSky X8R 2.4G Telemetry Receiver)

Are these reasonably straight forward to set up? or could any of you recommend something which does not require the wisdom of Aristotle and a degree in physics.

The X9D and the X8R are both rock solid products but the transmitter will take a little configuration to get all the functions to work.

I recently bought a Radiomaster tx16s and frsky x8r.

Fairly easy to setup, but Opentx has a huge learning curve to get the most out of it.

As a previous poster said I'd advocate OpenTx, I use OpenTx on a Taranis (X9D) but I also use OpenTx Companion
so that I can more easily change the configuration and test it. So far my mix needs for these models has been very simple
however I have OpenTx on other systems used for my more complex models and the mixes can get creative - made all the more
handy by using the PC interface of Companion.

very much appreciated. I have loved building my Tiger 1. I will probably go with the X9D and the X8R and when I get stuck, reach out to the experts on here for more guidance if thats OK. If anyone is in Essex and willing to help with the set up, I would be grateful of any assistance.

I wouldn't mind knowing what others have as driving curves. Maybe a few examples can be posted as Im trying to get smooth driving. Mainly when releasing the stick or going from forwards to reverse.

I've just been playing with a new toy (on grass) and the Taranis settings.

Changing the Curve on the Inputs from Diff to Expo, with the weight set to 50%, made it smooth and controllable. But with this RoboClaw speed controller, it would still stop very suddenly. You can also add Expos to the mixes, but I don't know if that would make any difference.

Removing the Expo and adding SlowUp and SlowDown of 2.0 seconds makes it feel the same as the Expo curve when driving but means it stops slowly, not suddenly.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for all your help on here. In particular to Adrain Harris, who got me up and running. Loving my Tiger 1 and now looking at some enhancements....Where do you stop? This is somewhat compulsive...looking already at my next tank.. Thanks again all and especially you Adrian, I very much enjoyed meeting with you and appreciate all your help, tuition and advise,
