Main body of the limber mostly finished, just a couple of bits to add, now I can start on the tow bar Regards Jeff

Made a start on the tow bar, it took me a while to work out what the top handle/ lever did, it turns out it is a brake release lever, so replaced the kit part with a working lever, still need to make the protective box for the springs Regards Jeff

Found a bit more time this afternoon and finished the front of the tow bar

Very nice progress with the ammunition trailer.

A little more explanation of the brake release: when the weight of the ammunition trailer presses forward under braking or going down a hill, the towing eye shaft pushes back into the tubular drawbar and by a connection of rods and fulcrum levers, engages both wheel brakes evenly. If the towing vehicle stops on any sort of down angle, the trailer brakes remain engaged, preventing the gun numbers from lifting the eye off the pintle hook and manhandling the trailer into position, usually to the left of the field gun at a 30 to 45 degree angle. So one gun number lifts that handle to disengage the brakes while two or four others hold the fold-out handles located one each side of the drawbar. Effective system, but must have been hard work controlling the trailer on any sort of incline.

Michael thanks for the explanation, now it makes sense, the kit part has a spring on the eye shaft that keeps it retracted, whereas it should hold it forward, the lever I made does release the eye shaft, but could not see the purpose until now, thanks for your knowledge and sharing it

Made and fitted a 4 leaf sprung bumper

Made a start on the lifting bars/handles, locking bolts to be made and fitted, used a figure to see if the scale looked ok Regards Jeff

Started the working locking bolts for the lifting arms, these are quite small and fiddly, they need some fettling and a good clean Regards Jeff

nearly finished on the limber build, few bits to add like the mud flaps and reflector Regards Jeff

Finished the build, I was going to add mud flaps, but looking at period photos most do not have them, not sure if it was a field modification, if it was a standard fitting, it will not take long to add them, it also needs ammunition trays, I might get around to it someday,
Next up is a built and running Quad to do one of my rebuilds, but to be honest I have no where to put it when finished Regards Jeff
