Limber rebuild

As the title says, I acquired a built quad and limber, and am starting on the limber, the thing that screams to be addressed is the inside, as it’s main purpose is transporting ammunition, that function should be depicted even if it does not have a full complement of ammo trays, so made a start today, using .8mm mild steel cut and folded to make two box sections that fit inside, the axel fits nicely under the floor, most of the fixings will have to be changed and flush to the inside

It’s been about 3 weeks since I have had any time to work on the limber, due to family issues, managed a few hours and have completed one side of the racking, following full size build construction

Slow progress, it’s been over 5 weeks since I posted on the limber, hopefully life will return to normal
made the racking for the other side, as well as the central compartment and door

Managed some time on the limber today, I did not like the hinges as they were milled onto the door, and needed filing to open properly, so I will make some, couple of pictures showing before and after on the door

New hinges made, more like the original, doors now open fully, next will be door locking assembly and handles, looks a mess but will sort it out later

Door handles and locking assembly’s finished and working, just need to fill all the unwanted holes and make the rubber bumpers for the inside of the doors, then tidy everything up and prime the doors

Front end cleaned up, and rubber buffers bolted on one side, working handles locks and hinges made from brass and steel

Made a start on the working leaf springs, these replace the solid alloy ones

That’s all of the major work done to inside and doors, next to the tow bar

Did you use spring steel for the springs, or is normal steel OK ?

Hi Adrian, it’s just mild steel and more than strong enough to hold the doors open

Well it’s been a month since I worked on the limber, sometimes it’s good to come back with fresh eyes, I had not paid much attention to the tool tray, so using steel and brass I fabricated the top lip, strengthening brackets and tie downs

Tool tray finished, bar for the canvas cover fitted, 7 10ba wing nuts made, just need to make the two side plates that cover the gap between mudguard and body, the front has had the wheel scrapers and bump stops added, and thicker bars for the door stops

Added the side pieces, and made and fitted the grab/tie down handles
