Seat and back rest covers. What materials and colours ?

Hi all,
The model I am making will depict one used in the desert campaign
in Tripoli 1943.

Does anyone know the material used and the colour of the covers?

Ok, wifey (an experianced sewing guru) has agreed to make cardboard
templates for all the seats and back rests.

These will be made for the exsisting rubber pads and wont be modidied.

Here are the imitation leather seats she made for the Pocher Merc

When she decides to make them I will post some pics.

Very neat looking covers, all this detail adds to make a very nice model. What material did you use to make the covers?

Hi Allan,
Good question. Wifey and I walked into a fabric shop and found a roll of this material. It looks like imitation leather, not to thick and fairly flexible. Not the easiest to sew hence only one seam instead of two.

It does look very realistic. If you would like a piece to look at pm me.

Also ive noticed that on several photographs there are wooden slats between the seat base and the cushion. Ive no idea if they were original or made during renovation. I used 1/8th balsa wood stained with varnish for mine. Looks pretty if nowt else

Thanks for the offer of a sample of the material but it would be wasted on me as I'm no good with a needle and my wife is not very good with the sewing machine.

I think that the slats would have been used to keep the cushions off the seats to prevent them soaking up water.

Keep the photos coming, the model is looking really good..
