Painting and weathering Maybach Panzer engines

After long time I picked up painting and weathering again!
Kees van Rijswijk commissioned me to work on two engines:

One top half to show under the engine hatch:


But also the "piece the resistance", a fullsize engine to ride on top of his Armortek Bergepather!



These are resin printed, large and heavy beasts. They break easily.

Finding pictures showing the right colors for the part was quite hard. Best I could find was of a model...

Just to see how the resin would react I sprayed the air filters with a primer first.

Marco, I’ve abandoned expensive so called weathering products in favour of oils. I find them a lot more controllable, much more cost effective and enjoyable. Might be worth a go if you’re having problems with MiG.

No problems with MiG, I use many different products, but I also simply experiment a lot to see what works!

I am mostly suprised about what doesn't seem to work at first, and then really comes out nice!

Now... After all this practice... Time for the big one!

I tried a lot to get the metal parts darker (I prefer chemical blueing because paint will easily chip off)


Last one worked haha!


Resin easily breaks, so since this part had broken off before I reinforced it with putty



And now that i had some putty anyway, I found more small repairs to make
