Hi Steve,

The company is MFAcomo drills and the unit is 942D271.

It struck me as quite a compact and robust little unit only 82.9mm long and with a 19.8W motor producing 3024 g.cm of torque via the gearbox at 12v it should move the carrier quite well.

Regards
David

Hi David &Steve,

Trouble with that motor it hasn't got a nice flat end to the gearbox for mounting the way we do. The UC would not drive up the ramp into the car on the way to Bovvy last weekend. Going to have to check that I am getting 12 volts to the motors under heavy load. 1:47 motors are on their way and I will fit them in Allan's UC and see what difference it makes.

Hi Dennis /Steve,

I have the motor and gearbox in my hand and there is a substantial flat area on the end of the gearbox. The central boss is 20mm in diameter and the flat area has a diameter or 30mm so there is a flat area between these two diameters 5mm wide that has 4 off M3 fixing points. This should be more than enough to securely fix the gearbox to the ER0219.

David

Hi Steve,

Sorry I have not tried it yet as I am away at the moment as it's my mother's 100th birthday and there is a bit of a celebration going on. Will let you know when I have it up and working. By the way I managed to get the backing system to work by removing the two studs and replacing them with some 3m sticky back abrasive film and changing the operating mechanism so that it excreted more force. It provided better control over the rate of turn but the wear rate on the brake shoe was excessive and it required regular adjustment. My next step was to face the shoe with mild steel to see it the wear rate could be reduced to an acceptable level but decided to go down the two motor route first.

Regards

David

Hi Steve
You said you went on line and got 2 of the supplied speed controller's.
Can I ask where from and the make and model number of them.

I have gone the same route as you just been modifying the drive shafts and motors today .
All fits together neatly.

Hi Derek
I got my speed controllers from CML, they are Hobbywing Quicrun 1060, these are the ones used in the option packs.

Climbing ability and turning on grass not acceptable with 16:1 motors. I have fitted 47:1 motors to the other UC but although climb was better the speed was too slow in my opinion.

I might go down the route that David Merritt has :-

16:1 980D161LN 450 rpm 1332 gm/cm
47:1 980D471LN 153 rpm 3000 gm/cm
27:1 942D271 537 rpm 3024 gm/cm

That 27-1 ratio motor sounds like it may be a good option, I am holding off buying a pair as I am concentrating on the hull build and details at the moment.

A few update photos of my carrier.

Coming along nicely, just need to finalise what gear ratio to use before adding the motors.

Big thanks to Dave Dibbs for the update kit

Steve

Hi Steve,

Looking good. just make sure you don't mix up ER107 and ER105 as the one is slightly shorter than the other.

Hi
Following all this information about the drive motors, etc. I thought it may be useful to say that I have used two of the standard Armortek motors, 6mm roller chain and 6mm steel sprocket 14T and 6mm steel sprocket 25T. these are strong enough to drive over most obstacles and tow my Armortek 25pdr and limber.
