Hex Head Bolts - Source in USA

Post by LesBernell »

I'm building a Panzer III and want to replace the button head bolts on the Turret Pannier with Hex Head Bolts. Does anyone know of a source in the US for Hex Head (Hexagonal Head Screw) Bolts?

McMaster-Carr comes to mind (https://www.mcmaster.com/screws/hex-head-screws/) but I am sure there are many more suppliers of hex head bolts over there.

If you are looking for small sizes... like BA sizes... then you are going to have a tough time finding anything. Model engineering companies are few and far-between here.

And, sadly, the best place in the UK refuses to ship to the USA! Which is pretty sad. I could understand if it was a L10 order. But last time I ordered from them it was a L500 order for hardware! One would think that for that kind of order... the USA would not be an inconvenience.

So I've been having them ship to a friend in the UK and he mails the package on to me.

Thanks Vince.
McMaster Carr has sizes down to 3mm. But the 2.5mm still eludes me.

Check Micro Fasteners. microfasteners.com

I get most of my metric screws/bolts/nuts from there for my Armorteks. You have to look around on their site but they have a good variety (but you have to look for it.) They ship FAST!

There's also Scale Hobbyist and Scale Wardware but I haven't ordered much from'em.

For metric sizes your best going outside the US. It isn't as bad as you might think and they arrive fairly quickly. I'd love a
reliable source for metrics in the states but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

MVD will send to the US, I just sent in an order to them a few weeks back

https://modellbauschrauben.de/

Or Knupfer

https://knupfer.info/shop/

from whom I've ordered in the recent past

And as I was on a quest for 2mm and 3mm castellated nuts in steel I also found a source for those as well, those I have in hand already...

For SAE hex heads the best bet in the US at the moment seems to be Godshalls as they supply steel versions down to 0-80...

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm actually quite familiar with Godshalls: my other project is a 1/8 scale live steamer.

I’ve been ordering BA nuts and bolts from these 2 suppliers. Takes a week or 2 but might be faster now that the holidays are over. Airmail straight to California😁
