Good evening all,
I'm very happy to say that Universal Carrier Number 30 has safely landed in the North East! I was somewhat surprised at the size of the box for such a small vehicle, but perhaps it's because I haven't received a fresh Armortek kit in many years!
With the Universal Carrier being a quite diminutive vehicle, it will suit my very small workspace well. My workspace is currently in progress, and will have a workbench and more storage, and is situated in my garage, in which lives my Morgan in a Carcoon. So as you can imagine space is at a premium. What's the saying? Ah yes, where there's will, there's a way!
My initial feelings are to build and modify the Carrier in such a way as to represent a Malta based carrier, sporting the wonderful Malta "wall" camouflage, designed to blend in with the local walls and buildings. Whether Mk2's were based on Malta or not I'm not sure of just yet, but a compromise will be met or the vehicle will be modified. Given that my Grandfather flew from Malta during the war, and that my wife and I had our honeymoon on the island last year, I think this is a scheme I'm pretty invested in!
All the best,
Alex

Re: Universal Carrier Number 30!
How interesting.
If I had the universal carrier I would be doing exactly that same camoflage.
Have a look here for more information on that paint scheme and at the bottom of the page are two colour photos of restored vehicles with different variations of that scheme.

Looking forward to see your carrier come to life.

Vince!
How wonderful, thank you for the link. Malta is a place truly close to my heart, a truly forgotten saga of the war, and a beautiful place with wonderful people. I'll do my best to make the carrier a fitting tribute to all who gave so much on Malta, whether civilian or serviceperson.
That's the nice thing about our models. They can be our own little homage to a window in history.
Best wishes,
Alex
P.S, I hope to return to Malta as soon as I can, drinks are on me when I do!
