Hi Mark,
Just wondering what the long, small box on the top is?
Any Motion, Sound module included in these boxes?
Have fun!

Best regards
Lerh Chang

Hi Dennis,
Still got my 5” gauge steam locomotives but fancied a tank again and couldn’t resist this when it popped up for sale. I toyed with getting one but they sold out pretty quickly so couldn’t believe my luck with this! I’ll pop down at some point and see you all again and rejoin SAG. Live Steam locomotives in winter are no fun especially if you wear glasses as you cannot see anything!

Whilst building the suspension units is it correct to fully screw home the part end threaded rods or should the brass end be left not fully screwed in? Thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

In my case, there is no specific reference to the Neutral Point in the manual, and I used a double spring to respond to the compression stress, so I made all the female screws into the male screw. Whether this is correct or not is not correct.

Have a nice day

Some more pictures of my build. I seem to have Chieftain bits everywhere! Coming on slowly but surely but I’ve got the rest of the winter to go!

I had an issue with the front hull casting whereby the fixing lug on the left hand side fractured so I decided to reinforce it with an aluminium strip formed to the correct contour.

Anyone know where I can purchase a small amount of Kilopoise grease for the suspension shock absorber units?

Impressive build speed. 8)
At the moment I'm on my forth coat of paint on the suspension bits. Primer etch, prime colour, top coat, part assembly and touch up.
and like yourself bits everywhere. I found space on top of the wardrobe to keep all the bits together until needed.
Final suspension full assembly will need a fifth coat. Crazy.
But the only way I can see to completely paint the whole assembly without dunking it in a tub of paint.

Some work on the suspension unit shock absorber parts. To remove the machining marks I use a power file and then “polish” them with a brass rotary brush mounted in a power drill secured in a vice. This leaves a mottled type finish which I think looks good and imitates a cast product.

Three questions;
1. Is it best to use zinc plated and/or stainless steel fixings?
2. Where do I get a small amount of Kilopoise grease for the suspension shock absorber units?
3. What is the correct colour to finish the Chieftain in?
Thanks,
Mark
