I bought this figure last year, after picking him up a few times trying different uniforms x 3 supplied I managed to dress him ready for the armortek open day.

I would have to disagree.
The uniform is SS. King Tigers were issued to Schwere Panzer Abteilungen, ( heavy tank companies ) which were regular Wehrmacht and not SS. Late war some of them had to hand over the tanks to the SS so it would not be wrong. For a KT in France or the Ardennes, it would be wrong.

There were x10 Schwere Panzerabteilung and the Tiger Abteilung of Großdeutschland which were Heer and x3 Schwere Panzerabteilung which were Waffen SS, all x3 of the Waffen SS Schwere Panzerabteilung were issued Tiger II.
Joachim Peiper never commanded a Tiger II he was not a tank commander he commanded a Kampfgruppe during the Ardennes offensive which included all types of vehicles not just Tiger II.

Interesting comments, I always thought he commanded a king tiger since owning a forces of valour 1/16 008 Joachim Peiper addition....still think he's a great figure in his leathers and worth buying...next figure I'm looking to buy is Otto Carius, these 3R figures are a big improvement over previous releases.
