For any of you who have never served on or with Centurion, Chieftain, Challenger, the bollards had numerous uses.

1) Anchor points for towing , winching if being recovered.
2) Tie-down points if being transported by rail or low-loader.
3) They were a good step if clambering onto the vehicl from front or back.
4) In my experience, they got the most use by being used as door-knockers. You never climbed up onto a tank without previously making the crew aware of your intentions and getting their permission. Bang them against the hull and you alerted the crew. It was so drilled into us during tech training in REME that we did it even if we were in barracks and knew nobody would be on the tank. During training, if you forgot to "knock" then it was one circuit of the hangers carrying a DST round and wearing a traffic cone on your head. If you screwed up on a safety point, it was a SHPrac round and a motorway traffic cone.
