Battery choice

Post by Vince Cutajar »

I have been in search for suitable batteries for my Tiger 1 since the beginning of this year. Due to shipping restrictions I have limited my search to local shops. Up till now I have found two types of batteries and both have a capacity of 18AH. Just can't find any 20 or 22AH batteries here.

http://www.dynoeurope.com/assets/gel-ev ... TDS-EN.pdf

The first one is just described as a sealed lead acid battery and the second one is described as a gel battery. With my inexperience in this subject I would tend to prefer the gel battery. It is a bit more expensive than the other one but they say that if required I can install them on it's side without any ill effect.

Which one do you think is best if these two were the only ones available to me?

It's impossible to choose without more information.

They're both effectively "Sealed Lead Acid" batteries, and the MKC one may well be built using gel.

Personally, I would go with the Dyno one, as they seem to have more detailed information available.

Adrian
I managed to dig up some details on the MKC battery.

The thing that surprised me most was that the MKC battery has a design life of 3 - 5 years whilst the Dyno battery has a design life of 12 years.

So the MKC battery is an AGM type and the Dyno is a gel type.

Going back on my previous choice  , it looks as though the MKC battery would be better in a tank, as it is more suited to short bursts of high current rather than a long term lower supply of current for the gel.

My batteries look most like your first link, but somewhat bigger capacity.

And way cheaper. ;-)
