2025 ARMORTEK KIT SURVEY

Over the last few years we have brought out a whole series of kits as a direct result of your feedback - kits like the Pershing, JagdPanther, Hetzer, Leopard 2A4, and more recently the Sd Kfz 7, 88mm Flak 36 and the upcoming Challenger 2.

So, in keeping with what has become and annual tradition, here is your opportunity to once again influence our future production plans.

We have added in some "guide pricing" next to the names of the models. This is a rough estimate of the price at the current rates.

Thanks in advance for your input and we look forward to the results.

A Warning.

Post by Adrian Harris »

How do you turn this:

before.jpg

Into this ?

After.jpg

You leave a single LiPo battery charging, inside a "fireproof" bag, in your workshop and nip inside for a quick comfort stop.

I must admit I've taken the stories of self-combusting LiPos with pinch of salt, and always assumed they had been abused, crashed or whatever beforehand.

Not any more...

I don't believe he's on the forum.

The plan is to get it going again, if Monique still has enough stock of parts !!

Looks like one of Phil Woolard’s range targets.
I hope the owner can rescue it.

No, he decided to pass it on. I've been lucky enough (I hope) to see if I can resurrect it. For instance, one of the tracks is nearly complete, with a couple of warped links at one end. The other is still fused to the shelving unit on which it was sitting

Yup, it was nearly totally gutted. He lost all his RC planes, cars, hand and bench tools, spray gear.

Dang that is sobering for sure. Never charge Lipo unattended (although I have done it a lot)!

Poor guy. Lipo's are fickle about charging at the right voltages and with balanced charging per cell - hopefully that was followed. So much for the effectiveness of flame proof bags?

I overcharged a NiMh battery for a RC car and it caught fire. I was able to get it outside before it caused any damage to floor. But it smoked, hissed and bubbled for over an hour. Ruined a brand new $40 battery. But it was my error that caused it. 2 quick charge cycles in a row caused it to get too hot.

That poor Tiger is a range target now for sure. It could probably be salvaged as a towed vehicle for a FAMO or other diorama. But never back to previous glory. :|

The aviation industry takes battery fires very seriously. In fact there are specific procedures that need to be followed in such cases. Obviously the first step is to extinguish the fire (if there is one) with an extinguisher.
But it smoked, hissed and bubbled for over an hour. Ruined a brand new $40 battery.
The next step is to cool the battery (or the device) as quickly as possible to avoid re-ignition of the fire. This is done by pouring water or any non-alcoholic liquid on the battery or device. Ideally drop the battery or the device in a container of such liquid.

If you manage to resurrect this one Adrian, you will be upgraded to "wizard of the universe" and "master of the impossible"!
It would be quite a statement for Armortek quality, too, actually... :D Just imagine models made of, eh, hm ...the p-word!
A little too much is about right...

Why does somebody use a LiPo battery in a tank? LiPos fit airplane models which need a small, light weight battery with a large capacity and very high discharging currents for some minutes of working. This is not at all the operating range for tank models.

I use LiFePO4-batteries in three of my five tanks and lead silicone batteries in the other two. Opposite to LiPo batteries the LiFePO4 batteries are as save as lead acid batteries when used with a battery management system and a suitable charging device, but they have double the usable capacity of lead acid batteries because they can be discharged up to 100 % (lead acids 50 %) without being damaged. They are fit for quick charge in one hour to 15 minutes, depending on the type of the cells. This means you can charge a 40 Ah super cell up to 160 amps (if you can supply the enormous charging power! )! My cells may be charged up to 40 amps, which requires a charging power of more than 1,200 watts!

Therefore in my opinion there is absolutely no reason to use LiPos in a 1/6 scale model.

The pic shows my 8 cell LiFePO4 battery for my King Tiger before wiring the balancers.

The balancer cables are mounted (one of two banks)

The LiPo wasn't being used in the tank, just charged in the shed which happened to also house the tank.
