The video Andy linked to from the Tank Museum is well worth a watch.

Equally some of the comments are worth a read ... The only time men will argue about paint colours.

It's not a bad video but David glosses over a couple of key points. Firstly, the RAL classification available today is not the same as that which applied in WW2. In other words, modern colour swatches don't match wartime colours. As David does point out, RAL 7028 isn't part of the modern classification anyway. Secondly, RAL 7028 went through at least four iterations, for which authentic RAL colour swatches have now been found. I started a thread about it a while back, here:

At least the Tank Museum are now making real efforts to get their paint right. My wife lead the successful bid to get Lottery money for the restoration of Tiger 131 and part of the case was the undertaking to strive for authenticity. In the previous era, it's not an exaggeration to say that curators went out to the local hardware shop to find paint which they thought appropriate without any real research. Sadly, some original paint finishes were compromised as a result. I believe that of the German panzers in the collection, only the Kleiner Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf. B survives it's original colours and they will have been subject to ageing.

Worth a watch.
