Leopard 1A4

It has been a while since I last posted, most of my builds are finished, but I did find an early all metal tank, 1/10 scale, and probably from the 1980s it was in a sorry state that I have rebuilt
Now I am not sure if this qualifies for off topic so before I post anything I will wait for Kian to let me know
Regards Jeff

Hi Jeffrey,

maybe the Leopard was manufactured by Michael Pakolicz in Germany.

Cheers Bodo

Sounds like this is the ideal place.

Can't wait till this tank makes it to the top of the list

Adrian.

Adrian, agreed. I understand it comes just behind the Chieftain in the list. By the way, we used to say the Leo was a good tank as long as you didn't have to go to war in it. The armour was so good, you could go through it with a Black and Decker drill. Made a nice noise though. S

Well I have not had any adverse comments, so will try to post some pictures and describe the renovation, all major pieces cast from alloy and welded, torsion bar suspension, deck with a multi circular copper track with electrical brush pickups in the turret, a novel way to provide power to the turret without getting wires twisted, overall dimensions were good to scale but fittings were naive, electric motors driving rear sprockets, each unit could be adjusted for track tension, tracks were duel pad in a hard wearing plastic / nylon with steel pins, but rusted stiff, this is what it looked like

if this is of interest to anyone let me know and I will show its progress

Hi Jeffrey
I have three Leo from Michael Pakolicz at home. So I can say your Modell is definitely not from him. There are two other producers in the past: Veroma and Mr.Müller. Witch your manufacture was? – the tracks and the gearbox are looking like Veroma.
If you need spare tracks:

Fine with this being in the Off-topic section.

Thanks Armortek,
thanks Frank, I managed to get some replacement track links from Veroma last year.

There were a couple of visual discrepancies on the tank, no side skirts, main deck with cast front mudguards, and the rear of the tank with a square telephone box, the 1A4 had a round t/box, so mudguards and t/box sawn off, and replaced, I also put in the armoured side sights in the turret and the engine decks cut out and hinged, some pictures to show progress

Just a few more pictures of the build, I wont bore you with all the details, but I wanted to be as accurate as I could, when researching the tools for the sides of the tank, there was one I did not recognise, it turned out to be the jack for lifting the engine decks and was housed in its bracket on the side, and the only way to make it was to see how it worked

With the interest in the new Leopard kit, I looked back through some of my old posts, and realised all the photos were missing on my Leopard 1a4, so took a few this morning

Thought I would share how the turret connects to the power, allowing it to turn continuously with tangling the wires

Hi Jeffrey,

Very impressive photos of your Leo 1 , on the large slip ring.

Can you re-upload those photos dated 24th and 25th of October 2017? They are un-available now.

Kind regards,

Lerh Chang

Hi Chang, I will try to upload some pictures, I do not think I can match the sequence they were first on the forum, but will show how I found the tank and what I did to improve it
