Morris Quad Batteries

Post by Kevin Hunter »

Probably a bit previous given these models are still being shipped, but has anyone bought batteries yet? Scanning the manuals, setup is based on 2 x 12v 9ah batteries but what dimensions can the tray accommodate?
Cheers
Kevin

Hi Kevin.
Just been looking at HARDWARE EXPRESS web site, the batteries HR1234W F2 look right,
Have measured up the tray where they will sit, with plenty of room to spare.
Hope this is off some use to you.
Regards Walter.

Thanks Walter. In fact, looking at various websites the typical 12v 9ah battery all appear to be of the same dimensions, probably why there is no mention in the manual like there is in other models.
Had I twigged this earlier I neednt have asked.
Thanks again
Kevin

Try Component Shop for batteries cheaper than Hardware Express and I have been using them for years with no complaints.

Anyone thinking of Lithium batteries for the Quad, or do we think it needs the weight of AGM batteries for traction ?

Hello Walter,
thanks for the information. This is the standard measure. So no high battery. The battery compartment is in the rear of the Morris.

I will have a go with lifepo4 the headway 15 amp round cells, but I don't have the standard motion pack so I have more room for the battery.

I would measure carefully for the Headway cells as they're not particularly compact.

My 24V 15Ah pack of 8 cells from Eclipse Bikes is about the same size as a pair of 22Ah AGM batteries, even if only half the weight.

Hello all,
couple of pictures of the yucel Y9-12 batteries and electronics fitted, its a tight fit, made a few modifications to the smoker mounting, the lower rear outside mounting plate filed the corner off so I could move the smoker as far back to give a bit of room between the fan and battery, you could just angle the smoker if you wanted, made a mounting bracket to secure the exhaust pipe to the flange fitting on the smoker, make sure you drill the hole in the correct place for the exhaust to go down and clear the chassis rail and body bracket, also drilled and taped a new filler hole in the rear of the smoker, if I did this again I would angle this hole up slightly to make it easier for the fluild to flow in to the smoker body, I made the large access panel in the rear of the body so it would open so I could gain access to the power button/charging lead/smoker filler tube and smoke on/off switch. in the last picture note where the loom goes between the chassis rails and up in to the electrics tray, if you go in front of where it is it will foul the body when you fit it, just make sure the wires are away from the winch drum, hope this info helps others.

That's a tight fit :!: :!:

It should last for ages though, as I use exactly the same ones in the T-34, and the Quad only has the one motor.

Where have you placed the BMS board ?
