Quad, Mick, for the use of.

Post by michael hilton »

Made a tentative start, it's good to feel the cold steel and aluminium once again. Lots of useful graphics.
The Quad build information has received much thought and is reflected in the illustrations, nice one Armortek.....Mick

Parts fitting well with easy to follow diagrams. I found it easier to fit the spring bolts through the springs and then refit the spring hangers onto the chassis rail. Thin coat of Halfords Etch Primer.....All is well....Mick

Hello Frank, thank you, hope you are well.
Cleaned the running surface of the tyres, except for the spare, almost got caught out there. Prepared the wheels for etch paint. I will soon have to decide on a paint scheme.
I will be using two part epoxy, to adhere the tyres to wheels, super glues have an adverse affect on my health.
Enjoyable build, kit parts produced to the usual highest Armortek specification.
I will have to consider moving the '251' off the bench, as more space is required.
I am,(by mutual agreement) restricted to the next smallest room in the bungalow. I know, a most shocking arrangement.....in my opinion......Mick

Thank you Peter, the secret.....National Service, although I signed on as a regular, in order to join the REME, otherwise it would have been the 'South Staffordshire Regiment' plenty of 'bull' and 'square bashing'... Oh, and a very strict wife ....Mick

Busy sorting fasteners into various boxes, keeps the fingers nimble.
Assembled the winch and fitted. Ordered a couple of spray paints, not sure of the final colours yet.....Mick

Hello Russ, yes the 24v winch motor was in the motion pack. Any news programming the 251 for sounds?.
Identifying the rear axle parts, build number 7.
My paint arrived yesterday, using the same supplier as for the 251 build, never quite got around to airbrushing, must give it a try.....Mick

Hi Mick,

Russ has been in touch with me about sounds, would have liked to have done it over the phone but he is in the US so will have to go the route of emails.

Hi Mick,

As a non airbrusher also which type of paints do you use. I am finding it increasingly difficult to get my usual cans in the colours I want. Thanks in advance.

Rear axle on and tackling the front axle tonight over a large glass of Red :D

Best regards

Dave

Hello Dennis, this is what getting old does to a mind  I thought Russ was over here in the UK. I should remember Armortek is World renowned.....Sorry.

Hello Dave, I am using Epic Militaria paints, located in Aberystwyth. The web site is http://www.EpicMilitaria.com £7.95 per 400mL spray can. Next day delivery is £8.
Quick drying and lots of colours. I understand they are mainly for re-enactors, collectors etc., I was pleased with the '251' finish, so thought I would try them again. the colours are strong, mainly for full size military vehicles.....Mick

The rear axle is finally together, I almost screwed up, just in case anyone has the same problem.....when fitting the axle shaft pins, do make sure the pin 3x14 is located equally in the axle, check that the axle will rotate freely. Once the Loctite is set the pin is a sod to remove
Anyway, all is well and moving smoothly.....Mick
