track tension?

Post by glen brooks »

Hi all, i keep having the left hand track slip of the drive sproket, is this due to the track being too slack? and if yes what s the best way to check the right track tension on the mid tiger? and can anything else make the track slip? thanks in advance chaps, glen

Glen,

The track can slip on the sproket if it is too slack but if both the tracks are about the same tension and only one of them is doing this I suggest you check the alignment of the sprocket with the road wheels. One quick way to do this is to slacken the sprocket on its shaft by disengaging the taper bush then leave it so it is a little slack on the shaft and run the model backwards and forwards so that the sprocket can find its own centre. If this doesn't work you wil have t remove the track and manually check the alignment of all the road wheels and sprocket. Also check that the axles are square to each other by putting a straight edge along the wheels. This applies to the early and mid Tiger's and not the late Tiger with the one piece bearing block. It is possible for the individual blocks to move.

Hi Glen

The correct tension is when the track is just lifting off the third outer road wheel when not under load.

All the best

Marc :D

I have mine a little slacker than Marc suggests and have the track just lifting off the second outermost road wheel, but it shouldn't matter too much. If the track is too slack it tends to tuck under the sprocket when turning.

From what you have said you have aligned the sprocket ok.
