SdKfz 251 build

Post by michael hilton »

Hello chaps, and the ladies, here we go again, the magic of Armortek has cast her spell. Ok, I am hooked, and this one is for keeps.
The workshop ( small bedroom ) is cleared and after twelve months restoring my 16mm garden railway my winter days/evenings will be filled with the sound of a SdKfz 251 Aust C under construction, did I ever think any different......Mick

Hello Paul, thank you for the welcome. I have already started to pick the 'brains' on the Forum.
I have a horrible feeling my axle pins to the differential are wrong, and should be offset, awaiting a reply from Dennis.
Anyway, I think the SdKfz will not be to heavy to handle.

Best wishes, Mick.

I am enjoying this kit immensely , the instructions are easy to follow and I like the 'circled' numbering.
The differential gearing moves smoothly by hand so I am satisfied with this part.
It has been very useful having other SdKfz builds on the Forum.....Mick.

Thank you Derek, your Comet build was an inspiration for me....Hello Dennis, quick question, is there a bearing (607 ZZ bearing) fitted both sides of part CMO244....Mick

Hi Mick,

Yes there is a bearing on both sides, difficult to see on page 5, the outside one is shown the tab just above the tab for part no CM0216.

You may want to dry fit CM0224 to CM0225 roughly before you fit the tyre as I had to take quite a bit of meat off CM0224 to get them to fit together.

Dennis.

Hello lads and ladies, making steady progress. First mistake....spray painted the two separate wheel parts, then had to clean back the surfaces that are 'loctited'. The wheel halves should close with a few taps, so I went for it,and found that the two wheel parts closed together with a few taps of my hard rubber mallet.
Onwards forever onwards....Mick

Again making steady progress, the vehicle steering mechanism goes together well, some easing required but nothing unexpected. I think I will apply some paint before Loctite, remembering to tape off those parts first.....Mick

Moving on at a pace now, I think I mentioned this before, how pleased I am at the smooth fitting parts, I think I had forgotten how well engineered these kits are. Had a senior moment, Dennis am I correct in thinking that there is no lower floor beneath the suspension on this model?.....Mick

Started the suspension build, appears to be straightforward, check and check again. Spray painting is a little fraught at the moment, that garage is damm cold, it's a quick blast with the paint 'can' and into the warm workshop with the parts....Mick
