Degreasing and painting

Post by John M. Lyle »

I have done a dry fit of my Armortek model, the Gun limber and 25 pdr gun. Do I have to completely dismantle the models to degrease them? Should I degrease before I apply Loctite to various parts? How do I degrease the models, do I immerse them completely in a solution or would the spray can degreasers work?
Where would I find the etching primer for Aluminum? I live over in Canada. DO I dismantle the models to paint them and then reassemble or can I just paint them as built?
Sorry for all the questions but these are my first all metal models.

Cheers,
John

John I think you will find that everyone has their own way of painting their models. I personally would dismantle the model to paint at least the primer coat. You probably need to visit your local auto parts store and buy a can of pre-paint or panel wipe which are applied with special wipes. Ideally its better to use a light coat of acid etch primer on the panels before a normal primer, then assemble and apply your colour coat. As I say everyone will probably do it differently.Your auto parts store should be able to point you in the right direction for the relevant primers. Good luck!
