Mark lV fullsize build

Post by Dennis Jones »

If you want to see a real build have a look at this. Took 10 weeks to build.

Thanks for putting that out here; interesting piece. When I saw the movie, I wondered what they used for it. Was it a wooden mock-up, did they use a real Mark IV, some sort of model or Special Effect? With Spielberg's deep pockets anything is possible. Now we know. Thanks again. PS: Hey Steven, how about a "Battle of the Bulge" movie?

Hi Dave,

I heard that the budget for the build was £350000 but don't hold me to that. The tank is now resident at the tank Museum at Bovington and they use it for Tankfest and special re-enactment display days. They bought it from the film company. I have seen it moving and according to the lads down there apart from the exhaust noise the movements are very similar to the original MK IV. I only live about 8 miles from the Museum and we are volunteers there so get to see these things quite often.
I have just been given by the Museum a 1/6th scale (50 inches long) model of a Churchill tank with bridge on it to try and restore. It was built in 1952 and controlled by wire, I will be posting photos soon, as the electrics are something to behold.

Further video of the replica running :-
