Having recently purchased a Centurion and doing bit of research as to what version to build I have ended up with a number of questions, hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge of the type may be able to give me some answers .
1. Is this the correct way the mark no,s work
Mk5= improved Mk3
Mk5/1=Mk5 with additional glassis armour
Mk5/2=Mk5 with L7 gun
Mk6=Mk5 with additional glassis armour and L7 gun
Mk6/1=Mk6 with ranging machine gun
Mk6/2=Mk6 with I/R capability
Mk11=Mk6 with ranging machine gun and I/R capability
2. Was the turret basket only fitted to tanks with a search light ?
3. Is the turret basket fitted to UK tanks the same as the Ausie one
4, Is the long range fuel tank fitted to LR versions the same as used on the Ausie tanks
Hope to post some build photos soon and make my mind up as to what version to build
Regards
Steve

Re: Centurion questions
Steve - great to see you on here with a new Cent model to share with us.
Your first port of call might be the Cent References thread which I posted a while ago here:
http://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/viewt ... =23&t=3795
On page one, there is family tree from which you can get answers to your first set of questions. Some of the Australian web sites also do very good family trees and I believe I posted links later on in the thread.
Concerning baskets and long range tanks, both appeared in UK service on the appropriate variants and yes the basket is associated with the IR night vision capability, of which the searchlight was a part.
Best regards
Stephen

Re: Centurion questions
Hi Steve,
again welcome to a fellow Cent builder. I am in South Yorkshire and so not a million miles away from you.
My Cent is being based on the tanks that were deployed to the Suez crisis in the 1950's but I am having trouble finding a specific tank to copy. I am therefore doing a generic version of what I think it should look like. Kind of an educated guess though as I do have some reference photo's etc.
It's nice to have a bash at modifying the basic kit and I am currently making up the drivers foul weather hood stowage box fitted to the front glacis plate.
If you want to view some of my work I have a thread re number 44 received so have a look on there.
Enjoy the process, mine is still only a third done and I am 13 months in so still a lot to look forward to.
Post photo's as and when you can as we can all learn from each other and don't look at that rascal Stephen White's thread too much! It only leads to a massive inferiority complex.
Only kidding Stephen, it inspires me to stretch myself every time I see your next instalment.
Regards mick

Re: Centurion questions
Stephen,
Thanks for the links/info.
I can't make my mind up yet as to what version to do, a British Mk6 or maybe a Canadian Mk11LR with 4 colour camo.
Mick.
I have been watching your build and seen your turret at the open day and must say it is looking very impressive.
Don.t think I will be able to anything as spectacular as Stephens Cent build but I hope to add plenty of detail.
Maybe we could have a Northern Centurion get together someday.
Regards
