TURRET & GUN ELEVATION PROBLEMS

Post by Richie Wignall »

I have a Futaba T9CHP super 9, been advised to set it on aerobatics by ripmax, as I know this is for helicopters and gliders etc. they advised this setting is best for tanks. having two problems with, when i power up on the tank the turrent rotation moves left when powering up, and elevation motors run for a couple of seconds as well. This is every time I power up. This is causing the turrent to rotate about 6 inches and the elevation up 1 inch. The rotation is on the left stick, (left to right) the elevation is on a C Switch (a 3 way switch).
Has anyone got any ideas how to stop this? OR DO ALL ARMORTEK TANKS DO THIS?

I have the following items on these channels -
Channel 1 for sound
Channel 2 track
Channel 3 track
Channel 4 turrent turn
Channel 5 gun recoil/blank firer
Channel 6 spare (but will be figures)
Channel 7 gun elevation
Channel 8 MG movement
Channel 9 lights

The turrent and gun elevation are each run by Electronize electronic switcher, type 48B 2W.

Would appreciate any help on this, as this never did this before installing the new Futaba and the Benedini sound system.
Thanks
Richie

Hello Ritchie,

I see nobody has replied to your question.
This behaviour from the model is most probably due to some mixing in the Transmitter. If it is a Helicopter set then this could be something to do with the Giro or tail rotor settings. I used to fly RC helicopters. Unfortunately the solution is to RTFM (Read the flippin' manual) for the transmitter and disable all the mixing functions. Does the model behave itself once this movement is over ?
Have you tried just plugging servos into the affected channels and seeing what happens when powered up? If you get the same behaviour then it is a Transmitter issue.
In my experience Model Shop owners haven't a Scoobies about the RC equipment they sell so no good going back to them.
I maybe completely barking up the wrong tree.
Not the first time.

Regards,

Will.

What you are experiencing is not unique. It is common occurrence when electronic switch units are used. These units use the main battery power for the motors they control and receive their command signals from the receiver. In the Armortek wiring system, both main battery power and the receiver power are switched on simultaneously. However, it takes the reciever a fraction of a second to establish radio control from the transmitter and during this time the switch units will not be fully under control, and may default to a running position. As soon as control is established the running stops. The new digital sets take slightly longer to establish control than the old 40mhz sets. The more complicated your radio, the longer it takes, and you have a very complex radio. It is not a fault, it is just the way it works.

To avoid this you could fit a separate radio power switch so that you can power up the radio before the main power circuit. If you do this, you will have to be very disciplined in ensuring that you power up and power down in the right sequence, or you could have a run away. Alternatively you could just ignore it, thats what I do.

Richie,

Have you thought about fitting one of the Hunter systems UHF switching units. I have a 4 channel one on my Tiger. The 4 channel unit is operated by a little key fob style switcher that can be mounted on the Tx. I use one channel to switch on the radio and sound system, one on the 24v system, one on the exhaust smoke and one for my animatronic man. The UHF unit will run all day off the one of the 12v batteries, so you don't really have to touch the tank once you've switched the UHF unit on at the start. By powering up the radio first there will be no running away on the turret etc, you can rev the tank without it moving. Also if anything does go wrong like interferance or it runs away for some reason you can kill it with one push of the button, no desperate chasing of the model.

Hi Alan
Sent you a PM about the tank,
Regards the problems, I have done as Mark advised and its working fine now. I am using all 9 channels now. I have seen on the super 9 that there is a throttle kill on it as well, but still looking in to that, not sure if this will work on the tank?
Looked at the system your using, but also needed a new transmitter at the time, this is why i went for the super 9, which is now working perfect.
Thanks
Richie
