Ring problem

Hello everybody!
I have worked last day on my 222 and found there is a problem with the brass ring and the turret...As the turret ring was not rolling in a free way ( it was so hard to move it inside the ring) I had to lime the brass ring and now the turret works good....
I did that because I think if the turret do not move free now the motor will certainly brake after...
So I want to know if there is any mistake of me doing this and if someone have the same problem than me...( now solved..)

Bonjour Yves,

You have used the correct method to fit the brass turret bearing to the top of the hull.
This method is described in the assembly instructions on page 9 (under fasteners).

If you are talking about the big heavy silvery coloured ring I would suggest that it is not used at all.

I fitted a couple of nuts as spacers and the turret moves very easily and freely, there is less work for the motor to do and it is fast as well.

Yes this is just what I ' m talking...I will try with the big ring and if it will any problems I will do the same thing than you...Can you post a picture about the work? ( It is alway better to see ..)

The big, very heavy silver ring was originally designed to take a gear ring so that the turret would work like the tiger turret ie. Dead Slow!

But, I seem to remember Mark saying that the ring was redundant as he had supplied the central pivot gearing and central electric motor.

The ring, if fitted could cause all sorts of problems including the turret getting stuck if something gets caught between the silver ring and the brass ring.

I understand that some people have made a spacer the same thickness as the silver ring and fitted that instead of the silver ring, I myself do not have any special equipment so I just replaced the silver ring with a couple of nuts.

The advantages of not fitting it are;

1. easier work for the gearing and motor.
2. less chance of a jam.
3. smother and faster turret turn.
4 as the turret is lighter it is easier to lift off the main body.

P.S. Anybody want to buy my very heavy silver ring? Very cheap!

If you look at where the turret joins the upright metal struts you can see no silver ring, just a space where the nuts are?

Thank you for the book Afredo and your precious info Patrick!..I understand now why there is so heavy silver ring!...
I haven't got any heavy tools but only my hands to make what I wants and for the ring , I have to lime the brass one to the time when the silver one works perfectly inside!..(A long work..)
I have re-made all the lights ( including the back ones) and the side panier because I wants all of this working and lightning... Belive me , it's a hard job whitout electrical tools for that...
I will post some pictures as soon as I can...
I will certainly do the same than you Patrick if the turret will not works correctly

ps: I have almost forgot to ask you all where do you find the both cases fixed on the side doors? did you made them? If yes how and did you glue them on the doors?..
