Does anyone know when the tracks were fitted as secondary armour, were they welded on or fitted to the turret & frontal area, has anyone finished one yet???

Ken

Hi Ken - welcome to the forum from another Firefly owner - still boxed though

Given that they might need them in the future as spares, I would have thought the tracks would be be made up into sections and then wired in place, rather than welded.

On a related note, I've always wondered whether welding things to tanks affects the armour strength due to the heat cycle added to the steel :?:

Adrian.

I'm not sure about the British, but I know that in the Pacific the US marines welded the spare tracks to the turret sometimes teeth outward. Usually these were tracks that were worn out.
