Does anyone know when the tracks were fitted as secondary armour, were they welded on or fitted to the turret & frontal area, has anyone finished one yet???

Re: HELP!!! SHERMAN FIREFLY NO 19
Hi Ken - welcome to the forum from another Firefly owner - still boxed though
Given that they might need them in the future as spares, I would have thought the tracks would be be made up into sections and then wired in place, rather than welded.
On a related note, I've always wondered whether welding things to tanks affects the armour strength due to the heat cycle added to the steel
Adrian.

I'm not sure about the British, but I know that in the Pacific the US marines welded the spare tracks to the turret sometimes teeth outward. Usually these were tracks that were worn out.
