Re: porsche kingtiger TURRET
Hi Bob.
The King Tiger came supplied with the Henschel turret, sometimes called the production turret, the Porsche type turret has a completely different look to it and is very rounded in appearence, with what was described as a shot trap under the mantle, it was also the first turret to be produced by companies racing to get the contract, and a number of this type of turret was produced but the whole set up was far more complicated and they lost out to Heschel in the end, but a number of tanks were still fitted with the Porsche type turret though they were more of a rare bird.
Stand by for correction
Cheers Paul

Re: porsche kingtiger TURRET
I think Porsche built about 90 as he was certain he would get the contract to build the Tiger 2.
If interested in any parts used in my builds contact me at johnfitzsimons@msn.com for a price list.

Hi Bob.
I was just trying to answer your question mate, I think you are correct though in that turret development was handed to Krupp, the main differences between the two tanks was the suspension system, this is where the tweo types come in I believe the Porsche type having a Bogie system as opposed to the torsion bar set up.
As John says Mr. P was totally convinced he would win but his design was more expensive and he lost and the contract was awarded to Henschel and son, that is why you had a number of tanks with the P turret on the H body, as far as I know some alteration was needed to fit the P onto the H as the P was of course designed for the P tank not the H.
Hope this helps because I am now going to keep quiet as I am sure I will have probably got some of the above not quite right but others on here will know I am sure.
Cheers Paul
